This article explains how we calculate Unusual Gain and Unusual loss tags

Updated over 10 months ago

We apply tags to Stocks and ETFs and Themes if they experience an unusual gain or loss. You can opt-in to receive email updates of unusual moves from your Watchlist in the notification centre.

How do we calculate an Unusual Gain or Loss?

Unusual Gain:

This label indicates that a stock experienced an unusual gain based on the closing price of the most recent trading day. The label is triggered by an approximate 2 standard deviation move from the average daily percentage change over the past 50 days.

This ensures the gain is specific to the performance of the particular instrument

Unusual Loss:

This label indicates that a stock experienced an unusual loss based on the closing price of the most recent trading day. It is triggered by an approximate 2 standard deviation move from the average daily percentage change over the past 50 days.
